自私的巨人读后感英文6篇

自私的巨人读后感英文篇1

This is a fairytale whose distribution volume is only second to The Bible. It’s been translated to versions of many other languages. And I gather there must be something special, something really great about it. It’s this conviction that drove me to read it at the first beginning. Well, with due respect to the author, I failed to see how this fairytale be worthy of our attention, despite the fact that many readers claimed this book to be designed for adults.

Anyway, as a well-acknowledged book, it must possess unique feature to maintain it’s position. And it’s reputation and popularity will by no means be destroyed by what an unknown man says. I will talk about the main contents of the book, and the inspiration it renders as usual.

This book mainly tells us the experience of a prince from a tiny planet, who traveled to many other planets and finally came to the earth and met the pilot in a desert. The prince and the pilot became good friends, and the pilot gradually got to know the feeling and experience of his friend. Before he came to the earth, little prince had been to other 6 little planets where he made acquaintance with some strange people.

The first man he met was a king on a little planet, yet he claimed to be the king of the space and ridiculously justified his unshakable governance over all. The second person was a man of vanity, who enjoyed compliments of any form without considering whether it’s sincere or not. The third person was an alcoholic who tried to forget the fact that he’s addicted to acohol by drinking like a fish. The fourth person was an abosolute money-oriented businessman, who cared nothing but his fortune. Next came the lamp-lighter who performed his duty blindly. The last one was a geographer who knew too much about geography to solve a real problem related to it. These six people each represented one kind of person like us. The author satirized people’s conceit, emptiness, fakeness, innocence and blindness through the tone of a child.

I see eye to eye with the author in that the cause of people’s loneliness can be concluded to the negligence of the bonds that connects them. People are supposed to care about each other, cherish what’s really important for them, and be grateful for the happiness that they’ve gained. We all believe knowledge and experience enable us to see clearly and make right judgements all the time. But we may sometimes lose the right to speak straighforwardly, think creatively or love courageously resulting from what we’ve experienced. That why in our middle school textbooks, it’s the little kid that breaks the illusion of the emperor by saying ”but mum, he ain’t were anything”.

When I was a child, I was definitely a good boy who went home on time after school and did his homework and never tried anything without mom’s permission. And now I am a grown-up, and still I am a good man, at least, that’s what I heard.

Sometimes when I was lonely and I began to think about my childhood, then all the happiness and care-free life came back to me as it were yesterday. Kids that once accompanied me during my childhood now become fathers and mothers of their kids and I myself am a child no more.

Thinking about all these things have made me moody. There’re changes happening in our lives whether we are happy about it or not. People told me life is a journey which will never stop once it’s started. What’s left behind are happiness and sorrow, pride and shame, success and regret. There’s good old time to reminisce and there’s sad hours that reminds us of the pain. Your feeling makes them real, and you know you lived.

I want to conclude by saying some positive words that each yestersday used to be today, and each today is the future of yesterday, so making the most of today is the best way to cherish your lives. Our mortal beings are doomed to die. It’s not sad, instead, death it’s just a process of our lives. After all, we’ve lived our lives and it’s what we do and how we think that determine who we are.

自私的巨人读后感英文篇2

With so many famous masterpieces on the booklist, it is really a pretty hard job to choose one to read first. After much hesitation and deeply thought, I finally decided to borrow Great Expectations from the small library.

Great Expectations is about love, family, and rejection as Pip and Miss Havisham have both been rejected in certain ways. Pip is a boy around 13 years old, easy to fright, and goes through his life suffering lots of sadness. He is in love with a girl named Estella and wants her to find his love, but for him being shy and not showing himself to her, it makes it very hard for him.

Great Expectations was the penultimate novel completed by the most popular novelist of Victorian England, Charles Dickens. Born in Kent, England, in 1812 to a family of modest means but great pretensions, Dickens’s early life was marked by both humiliation and ambition. Dickens never forgot the period of financial crisis during his childhood, when following his father’s bankruptcy, he was taken out of school and forced to work in a shoepolish warehouse.

Pip meets an escaped convict, Magwitch, and gives him food, in an encounter that is to haunt both their lives.

When Pip receives riches from a mysterious benefactor he snobbishly abandons his friends for London society and his“great expectations”。

I set up my mind to select it for the reason that I have read a brief introduction of this masterpiece in my high school English textbook before. In addition, a Tale of Two Cities which is also written by Charles Dickens, the outstanding and special English writer, left me a wonderful and deep impression, when I finished reading the marvelous story.

Of course, Great Expectations didn’t let me down, either. What’s more, the whole structure of the novel is well and elaborately designed. The plot is extremely attractive and full of unexpected twists. Quite a few characters have a distinguishable personality. Moreover, those words and sentences are so beautiful and meaningful that I even took them down carefully in my notebook. By reading them no less than three times, I have learned not only some new phrases and sentences, but also a philosophy of life.

Among the characters, which impressed me most are not Pip and Estella who should be regarded as the leading roles, but Joe and Magwitch. I feel awfully sorry that I was not brave enough to read the original edition that is as thick as a brick. Otherwise, I may appreciate Joe and Magwitch more. Yes, they are not the main characters in the novel. However, what they said and what they did deeply touched me. It’s interesting, isn’t it? They are quite the opposite guys. One is a totally good man without the least bit of wickedness while the other is a prisoner who is believed to have committed every evil.

I believe that everyone who reads the book is to like Joe. When he talked about his heavy drinking father who hit him a lot, he said he had a lot of love. Faced with his rude wife, he would rather seem a bit weak or foolish than stand up to her and fight for himself. Knowing peacockish Pip was ashamed of his uneducated manners, he left sadly and quietly. The world rushes on over the strings of the lingering heart making the music of sadness. But when he was informed of Pip’s illness, he immediately came to take good care of Pip. He is always contributing everything and requiring nothing. Such a man is Joe, kind, tolerant and selfless. "Nothing is so mild and gentle as courage, nothing so cruel and pitiless as cowardice," says a wise author.

However, why do I appreciate Magwitch, the bad guy? You may wonder. Indeed, Magwitch did a lot of evil things when he was young. But how can you be unmoved when you get to know that the old man kept himself going just by thinking of the boy who once did him a small favor? He lost his only daughter and Pip had no parents, so he considered himself as the boy’s second father, making up his mind to help his dear boy became a gentleman. He did every kind of job and led a hard life in Australia. At last he made a big fortune and promised himself that all the money would go to Pip. He could have led a better life in Australia ,but Ihe chose to go back to London .with the simple intention of seeing Pip, he went back at the risk of being hanged! “whatever the fault he had from the start, remember, reader, he had a good heart.” Joe used these words to describe his father. But I think these words can better describe Magwitch. He lived with the fear of death all his life. Who shuts love out, in turn shall be shut out from love. However, thankfully, because Pip finally realized his good heart, his ending was peaceful.

Dickens has Pip as the writer and first person narrator of this account of his life"s experiences, and the entire story is understood to have been written as a retrospective, rather than as a present tense narrative or a diary or journal. Still, though Pip "knows" how all the events in the story will turn out, he uses only very subtle foreshadowing so that we learn of events only when the Pip in the story does. Pip does, however, use the perspective of the bitter lessons he"s learned to comment acidly on various actions and attitudes in his earlier life.

I know how to fully understand this novel, twice is far from enough. Pip, Estella, Miss Havisham, Biddy even Mr Wemmick, every single character has a story that is well worth my attention. I love this novel so much that I am determined to read the original edition one day. Believe me. But before that day comes, I will see the movie Great Expectations first.

Search for knowledge, read more, sit on your front porch and admire the view without paying attention to your needs.

自私的巨人读后感英文篇3

"The wizard of oz" is a book rich in knowledge and truth, which makes me learn a lot.Every chapter of the story deserves to be savored.

The story of the girl rosie, aunt em, and uncle Henry live on a ranch in Kansas.By a whirlwind to a strange place.Under the guidance of the good witch of oz, she set out on her way home and eventually overcame all the difficulties to get home.

On her way home she met many of her friends, even though she encountered many difficulties and dangers.A scarecrow with no brain.&; other;A tin man with no heart.&; other;A lion without courage.Help her get through this.Let me really understand the importance and value of friendship.Sometimes I wonder: if rosie gets to that strange place without the help of these friends, she will never come home to her aunt and uncle. It is possible to fall into the street and become a slave, which makes me feel the importance of friends again. And my classmates sometimes laugh at each other and start fighting when they have something small.I think we should help each other, build friendship, love each other, unite together, do not quarrel over a little thing, and destroy the friendship between friends.

of course, not just because of the power of friendship to create the perfect ending, but also because of their good wishes for their own unremitting efforts, whether it is by how many setbacks, how many difficulties, but they still insist on.I admire their noble qualities.

On that thrilling journey, they could not go on because of a great ditch across the road.At this moment, it seems to us that their journey is about to stop. Then the scarecrow came forward. The cowardly lion also stood up and jumped out of the ditch, and when everyone reached the other side, the lion was tired and out of breath.

This book appeals to me not only the wonderful story but also the inspiration it brings to me.The most prominent point is: to do everything must have perseverance, persistence, only has success, only has the rainstorm after the rainbow.

Im far from the main characters.Once, my mother helped me with a brush shift, and at the beginning I studied with enthusiasm, but after a few days, I found it very boring.I started off in class; He didnt finish the homework assigned by the teacher. After reading this book, I finally understand that I need to persevere, to conquer myself, not to be afraid of difficulties, and finally to see the rainbow after the wind and rain.

My favorite is the story of the last chapter, although only a few words, but it can be the end of the story that rosie has been so hard to get home.It contained a spirit of perseverance and courage to overcome difficulties.

自私的巨人读后感英文篇4

Wizard of Oz is a fairy tale carefully written by American writer Lyman Frank Baum. The article contains the authors inspiration to the desire - dont think that the desire can never be realized. As long as you work hard and strive for it, then the desire will be realized by us.

The wizard of Oz paints a moving story full of friendship, courage and trust. Let us know that friendship is a kind of quiet and calm love, guided by reason, the habit of forming, the combination of long - term understanding and common, without jealousy, and no fear. True perseverance is that when a man is in trouble or danger, he can calm himself and do his duty. (Rock)

The images depicted in the wizard of Oz are Rosie, scarecrow, iron man, lion, and oz. They have experienced a lot of things together: bravely defeated the evil Western wicked witch; they worked together through the exquisite porcelain country and the wooded Schwarzwald; found the good Southern witch Genda, finally finished the desire to go home with Rosie, and lived happily with Aunt Amy and uncle Henry.

By reading the work of Wizard of Oz, we must learn more about Rosies steadfast spirit and optimistic attitude. Although there are some frustrations and hardships to realize the ideal desire, as long as we have persevered efforts, one day, we feel that the desire to be impossible will be realized.

自私的巨人读后感英文篇5

"Tomorrow is another day anyway!" Scarlett was deeply infected with me. She let me know, really is not optimistic to believe that life is easy, but clearly know there are many setbacks and obstacles in life, still can look into it, and try our best to out even climbed out of the dilemma. Scarlett would have complained and felt like a lot of people, but the difference was that most people would never recover, and scarlett would take heart and face it all the more.

As a college student, we more to carry forward this spirit of optimism, we have a "move over the eyes", "chapters of the pupil" through the years we have, whatever we will encounter in the process of the pursuit of a dream lost regret or the pain of failure, but we should still believe that the future will certainly to us. Once when I was in dream also had doubts and struggle, but when I look back, but accidentally smile, those who look very painful experience, under the oxidation of the time, will become our story, they be years alms little surprise to us? We all like the sunshine breeze and the calm water, but may as well occasionally take the irons in the rain, and believe that the clouds and flowers and flowers in your heart will have a new build.

"I believe that laughter is the best way to burn calories. I believe in adversity, be strong. I believe that happy girls are the most beautiful girls. I believe tomorrow will be a new beginning, and miracles will happen." You may not have the freedom to be yourself, but you must have the courage to be yourself. I hope we are all storytellers and have a wonderful tomorrow.
